Chad Ochocinco Wants His Name to be a Household Word

Cincinnati Bengals receiver Chad Ochocinco has an iPhone application with photos, videos, tweets and dating advice for $4.99. As if that weren't enough, Ochocinco is planning to form his own social news network on Twitter. He will use his player contacts in the NFL to develop news about other teams. The idea grew out of his partnership with Motorola who is going to provide the technology.

There just might be a new NFL theme song...

"Wherever you go, there will be Ochocinco..."

That's because Ochocinco will not only be tweeting, he'll be sharing the dirt about other teams on his social network. Likely the same stuff that the NFL doesn't want anyone to jabber about and the reason that some teams put a muzzle on the Twittering during NFL games.

That never stopped Bengals receiver Chad Ochocinco from being social. Well, he did stop tweeting for a brief period of time earlier in the NFL season, but revived his account within days. His 300K+ followers were waiting to tweet it up with him when he returned. Not that he really EVER left....it was really great for some press, though.

Chad Ochocinco's new social network is called OCNN for the Ochocinco News Network. He will try to compete with mainstream media to tell fans what's going on with NFL teams. The receiver plans to operate like a reporter, getting tips from players on other teams. He also might get other NFL players involved in his reports.

"I am that source now," he said in a report done on AP. "I'll be the leak for all 32 teams."

Let's get this straight. Chad Ochocinco has an iPhone app called The Ochocinco Experience. People want to pay $4.99 a month...plus tax...to keep up with whatever Ochocinco is doing? Or turn to him for sage dating advice? That's over $60 a year to get the advice of someone who we're not even sure is competent of giving dating advice. Then again, neither is Dr. Phil.

Top the iPhone app off with access to Chad's social network, OCNN, and you'll be so fully informed by this football star turned social media wizard that you might not ever need to read a newspaper or turn on the news again. Your dating life should be all squared away as well.

It seems like there's a trend going on here. Social networks, iPhone apps...he's creating a brand for himself that could bomb. Then again, imagine the joy in receiving Ochocinco Cologne in your stocking on Christmas day. Or perhaps a pair of Ochocinco sunglasses.

Yes, this Bengals receiver is planning ahead. He wants Ochocinco to be a household word. Not exactly sure why but kudos to anyone who wants his name on a package of condoms. That's right.

But that's not all, folks. Ochocinco's autobiography Ocho Cinco: What Football and Life Have Thrown My Way is on its way to bookstore shelves next week. Here are a few excerpts so you can decide whether or not you want to add this to your holiday shopping list:

On selling the Ochocinco brand: "Ochocinco Cologne, Ochocinco Sportswear. ... I'm telling you, trust me, watch. It's going to be big. Ochocindo Cigars, straight from Havana. ... Sunglasses, hats. ... Condoms? Definitely."

He fantasizes about life on Planet Chad: "Lightposts made of gold. ... No speed limit. ... Hugh Hefner's All-Playmates Squad. ... Beaches, mountains, parks, whatever you need. ... A lot of cigars. A lot of Frank Sinatra. All kinds of music. I don't drink, but there would be alcohol."

At his condo in Cincinnati, he has "like nine paintings of myself. Why? I love me some."

There's nothing wrong with a bit of self-appreciation but with a salary of $3,550,000 for his position as Bengal's receiver what more does Chad need? Perhaps he needs to start giving that iPhone app away for free and show a little go-give spirit for his fans who don't make $3,550,00 a year.
