World Series Schedule 2009 Starts October 28

The 2009 World Series schedule has officially been announced and the first game will be played on October 28 in New York. The 105th edition of The World Series will be a best-of-seven playoff between the Philadelphia Phillies, champions of the National League, and the New York Yankees, champions of the American League. For the first time ever, the World Series is scheduled to end in November.

The Phillies are seeking to repeat as World Series champions. This is a rematch of the 1950 World Series in which the Yankees swept the Phillies 4 games to 0. The schedule for the 2009 World Series has the first game to be held at Yankee Stadium in New York on October 28.

All games air on FOX, and there is no extra off day in between Games 4 and 5 this time. Joe Buck will call play-by-play and Tim McCarver will provide analysis. The Series will also be broadcast nationally on ESPN Radio, with sportscasters Jon Miller and Joe Morgan announcing the game plays.

Yankee Stadium will host the first 2009 World Series game. The stadium is located in the Bronx, the northernmost borough of New York City, New York. Yankee Stadium in Bronx, NY replaces the previous Yankee Stadium, built in 1923.

Citizens Bank Park, home of the Philadelphia Phillies, will host World Series 2009 games 3 and 4 in the 43,647-seat baseball park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It is part of the South Philadelphia Sports Complex. Game 5 will be played at Citizens Bank Park if needed.

Game 2: Thursday, Oct. 29, 7:57 p.m. at Yankee Stadium

Game 3: Saturday, Oct. 31, 7:57 p.m. at Citizens Bank Park
Game 4: Sunday, Nov. 1, 8:20 p.m. at Citizens Bank Park
Game 5: Monday, Nov. 2, 7:57 p.m. at Citizens Bank Park*

Game 6: Wednesday, Nov. 4, 7:57 p.m. at Yankee Stadium*
Game 7: Thursday, Nov. 5, 7:57 p.m. at Yankee Stadium*
