Shortly after midnight on October 18, football player Jasper Howard was stabbed to death on the University of Connecticut campus. Howard, a starting cornerback whose nickname was Jazz, was murdered outside a university-sanctioned dance, hours after helping his team to a homecoming game win over Louisville.
Last week the student newspaper, The Daily Campus, stated that threats were being made to witnesses to the Howard killing via Internet postings. Witnesses to the killing of football player Jasper Howard are being threatened with violence if they come forward with evidence. Police urged anyone with information to come forward despite the threats.
Jasper Howard's UConn teammates all attended his funeral Monday in Miami, where Howard was eulogized by coach Randy Edsall as “the ultimate son, he was the ultimate brother. He was the ultimate teammate. He was the ultimate friend. They didn’t come any better than Jazz."
Apparently police searched storm drains and a lake on campus close to the area of the stabbing but did not say what they were looking for. All inquiries about Jasper Howard's killing at UConn have been referred to campus police.
John Lomax, the person charged with the killing of UConn football player Jasper Howard, is being held on a $2 million bond and his lawyer is surprised at the charges. Attorney Freedman stated, "I’m curious to find out what evidence they had to secure an arrest warrant for murder ... From all the evidence I’ve heard, he was not involved in the stabbing."
