John Lomax has Conviction Prior to UConn Murder Charge

John William Lomax III was arrested Tuesday morning and charged with murder of 20-year-old UConn football player Jasper Howard. According to Connecticut State court records, John William Lomax III is listed as having a prior conviction for a motor vehicle infraction in Bloomfield in 2007.

Lomax,21, is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday on charges of murder and conspiracy to commit assault in the October 18 stabbing death of Jasper Howard.

John W. Lomax III resides at 28 Barry Circle, Bloomfield, CT which is approximately 30 miles from the UConn Campus. He is not a student at University of Connecticut. He is currently being held on $2 million bail.

Lomax's silver Nissan Maxima was towed from the UConn campus by state police on the Sunday morning following the homicide, although at the time police did not say whether it had anything to do with the Howard case.

Police have been unable to find the knife used to stab Howard. They searched storm drains in the area around the campus and last weekend searched a nearby lake. They also executed search warrants on homes and apartments where Lomax has lived.

Lomax allegedly grew up in the same area of Bloomfield where Jasper Howard was killed on October 18.

Police also arrested two other people in connection with the fight that led to Howard's death. Hakim Muhammad, 20, was charged with conspiracy to commit assault and Jamal Todd, 21, faces a felony charge of falsely reporting an incident and a misdemeanor charge of reckless endangerment for pulling a fire alarm that emptied the dance early that Sunday morning.

Lomax, a Bloomfield High School graduate who works in information technology, goes by the nickname "Pooda." He last logged into his MySpace page in March, when he listed his occupation as "taking care of my daughter." He also has a Facebook page and is friends on the site with Hakim Muhammad and 21-year-old Johnny Hood of Hartford, who was arrested shortly after the stabbing and faces charges of breach of peace and interfering with police.

Lomax was initially to be charged in connection with the fight that led to Jasper Howard’s death, but not with murder. However, the state police now have enough evidence and have charged Lomax with the killing.
