The New York City Marathon, founded in 1970, is considered to be the world's largest has become one of the most popular marathons. Over 2 million spectators line the streets, bridges, and roadways of New York to watch the racers run while another 315 million watch on TV.

The course of the NYC Marathon 2009 moves through the streets of New York's five boroughs: Staten Island, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Manhattan. The course unites dozens of culturally and ethnically diverse neighborhoods, crossed five bridges, and finishes at Tavern on the Green in world-famous Central Park.
