Phillies World Series Winner According to Macy's Ad

Apparently the Philadelphia Inquirer is positive that the Philadephia Phillies are going to win the World Series. A day after the Yankees took a 3-1 lead in the World Series, The Philadelphia Inquirer ran an ad from the Macy's retail chain congratulating the Phillies on winning back-to-back championships. Could be that someone at the Philadelphia Inquirer is a clairvoyant...or extremely embarassed.

Monday's Philadelphia Inquirer printed a three-quarter page Macy's ad on the back of Monday's front section. It features a T-shirt emblazoned with the Phillies logo, the Commissioner's Trophy and the phrase "Back To Back World Series Champions."

It's obvious that Macy's has two ads ready so that they can congratulate the champion immediately. Many print ads are done this way so that there is a ready made ad when a big event is in the wings. However, someone actually needs to submit the ad for placement and having the Phillies congratulations ad featured in the Inquirer prior to the World Series being over...well, that's just a major foul ball.

Perhaps Macy's anticipated this flub up on the part of the Philadelphia Inquirer. In fine print at the bottom of the ad, there is a disclaimer: "Advertised items may not be at your local Macy's."

The Inquirer released an apologetic message to readers saying the paper deeply regrets the error.

Game 5 of the World Series is Monday night, November 2. The New York Yankees will play on the Phillies turf at 7:57pm on FOX.
