A special edition of TLC’s “Jon & Kate Plus Eight” titled “Kate: Her Story,” was aired on Monday, November 2. Kate Gosselin talked to Natalie Morales of NBC News about the public breakup of her marriage, husband Jon Gosselin's erratic behavior, and rumors of her own infidelity with her bodyguard, Steve Neild.

Kate: Her Story was aired in place of a new episode of “Kate Plus Eight,” TLC’s new version of the long-running reality series. TLC could not air any new episodes and filming of the children stopped after Jon sent a cease-and-desist letter to the channel in late September.

There was mixed reaction, as always, to what Kate Gosselin had to say on the special edition of what would have been Kate Plus Eight. Fans have either stood behind Kate Gosselin or completely turned against her.

At times in her interview with NBC's Natalie Morales, Kate Gosselin seemed to bring out the chronic whining that she is known for. Kate discussed her upbringing, whining that she was “the forgotten middle child” and that “there was a lot in my childhood that was unhappy.” She said that she had always told her parents that “five kids were way too many,” a line her mother would throw back at her after her sextuplets were born.

Kate Gosselin's parents are not involved the lives of her eight children and haven't been since the inception of Jon and Kate Plus 8.

As far as her history with husband Jon Gosselin, Kate agreed that she spoke abusively to Jon during the show. “I was very hard on him,” Kate said, “and I would not deny that. It was how we related always.”

Kate touched upon the rumors that she had or is having an affair with her bodyguard, Steve Neild.

Kate denied the allegations of an affair and called it "unthinkable". She claimed that she needed security because “there are people who have a lot of contempt for me, and at the end of the day I need to come home safely to my kids.”

Jon encouraged her to hire a bodyguard, she said, “and then one day it suited his needs to kind of take the spotlight off of himself and his bad behavior and turn it on me.”

NBC's Morales asked Kate if she still loved Jon.

“A part of me always will,” she replied. “It’s hard to be married to somebody for 10 years and try to say I don’t love them anymore.…I love the memories that we have together, of the good times.”

Kate stated that the marriage probably would have ended whether or not she and Jon had done the TV show. “We would have been struggling,” she said, “me as a nurse, him in IT. That probably would have gotten the best of us.”

With her Monday night interview behind her, it's hard to say if it will help or hurt Kate Gosselin. She has plans to stay in media with a show of her own without the kids claiming, "being on television is a financial necessity ... it has become our primary source of income ... at this point, I can’t go back.”
