Nicolas Cage Loses Father August Coppola

Nicolas Cage's father, August Coppola was a retired college dean August taught literature and was the dean of creative arts at California’s San Francisco State University. Coppola divorced Cage’s mother, dancer and choreographer Joy Vogelsang, in 1976.

Besides the leaving behind actor Nicolas Cage, Coppola is survived by sons Christopher and Marc and six grandchildren - as well as an extended showbiz family including Francis Ford Coppola, actress sister Talia Shire and her children, including actors Robert and Jason Schwartzman.

Nicolas Cage was scheduled to make an appearance at the New York screening of his latest film, Bad Lieutenant Port of Call New Orleans. Instead Cage will use this time to reconnect with his family and grieve over the loss of his father, August Coppola.
