More Bodies Found in Home of Rapist Anthony Sowell

Four more bodies have been discovered in the Ohio home of rapist Anthony Sowell. Police say four more bodies and a skull were found Tuesday at the home, where the remains of six women were removed last week. Sowell is currently in jail after being charged last week with five counts of aggravated murder and with rape, felonious assault, kidnapping.

Anthony Sowell, 50, spent 15 years in prison for a 1989 rape. Police discovered the six bodies last Thursday and Friday after a woman reported being raped at Sowell's home.

Sowell is a registered sex offender and required to check in regularly at the sheriff's office. Officers would stop by his home frequently to make sure he was there, although they were not allowed to enter his home. Their most recent visit was September 22, just hours before a woman reported being raped.

Police Chief Michael McGrath said the four bodies were buried in the backyard and a skull was found in a bucket in the basement. Authorities do not know whether the skull belongs to an 11th victim. According to the Coroners office, the bodies could have been buried anywhere from weeks to months to years.

The most recent find by police of four rotting corpses from shallow graves in Sowell's back garden and found other remains hidden in the basement, in a third-floor living room and in a crawl space under the house eaves. The skull was wrapped in a paper bag in a bucket.

Sowell's neighbors have long assumed the foul smell on their street corner had been coming from a brick building where workers churned out sausage and head cheese.

The latest four bodies were discovered at the home of Anthony Sowell by a police digger, after cadaver dogs were unable to pick up a scent due to strong winds yesterday.
