Food Network Iron Chef Features Michelle Obama

The Food Network's popular show, Iron Chef of America, will air a special show in January,2010 with Michelle Obama announcing the "secret ingredient" to the chefs before the competition. White House executive chef Cristeta Comerford and celebrity chefs Bobby Flay, Mario Batali and Emeril Lagasse are all featured in the upcoming Iron Chef with the first lady.

The Iron Chef episode, which has already been filmed, will feature chefs using ingredients that were grown in the Obama family's White House vegetable garden. The secret ingredient has not been revealed but it will likely be herbs or vegetables that grow in the White House garden.

The two-hour episode will team up White House executive chef Cristeta Comerford with Bobby Flay. They will battle it out against Mario Batali and Emeril Lagasse. Cook-off judges include British chef Nigella Lawson, actress Jane Seymour and U.S. Olympic swimmer Natalie Coughlin.

Meantime, Michelle Obama will use her time in on her first reality show to talk about her commitment to ending childhood obesity through farmers' markets, exercise, nutritious recipes, communal gardens and improved school lunch programs. These are all initiative that fall under the White House plan to get kids healthy. Mrs. Obama launched the Healthy Kids Initiative to encourage healthier eating and urge children to reject fast food.

The Food Network episode Iron Chef America that features Mrs. Obama will air on January 3, 2010.
