New York Unemployment Website Down: Facebook Users Gripe

The unemployment claims website for the New York State Department of Labor is having some technical problems today. Shortly after 3pm EST, there was no access to the unemployment section of the New York State Department of Labor website.

A spokeswoman for the New York Department of Labor says the IT staff is currently trying to fix the problem. Meanwhile, people jammed up the NYS Unemployment phone lines making it nearly impossible for anyone to get through.

The NY Department of Labor has a Facebook page that it is trying to re-direct people to. Unfortunately there is little more information there:

“We continue to work on our technical problems on our UI claims website and our phones. The phones are working, but you may experience a long wait due to the volume of calls. We continue to work and hope to have everything restored back to normal soon. More updates to come.”

The Facebook page reveals a variety of comments from frustrated unemployment filers, who are mainly upset over the long waits on the unemployment phone line. The Facebook page for the NY State Department of Labor seems more like a place to come gripe than an information portal.

As of 5:15 pm EST, there was still no access to the New York State Department of Labor unemployment website which has been down for over two hours. The only message one will see is the standard, "Oops! This link appears to be broken."
