Nokia Corporation issued a recall Monday for 14 million mobile phone chargers that may pose a risk for electric shock to consumers. Nokia has not received reports of injuries or accidents related to the chargers as of this time and the recall is precautionary.

Nokia is recalling chargers that bear Nokia's name and are made by Chinese battery and auto part maker BYD Company. Recalled are models AC-3E and AC-3U, made between June 15 and August 9, 2009. Also recalled is model AC-4U, manufactured between April 13 and October 25, 2009. The chargers were primarily sold in Europe and North America.

The recall is based on Nokia warning consumers that the chargers' plastic covers might work loose and expose wiring, which could cause an electric shock if touched if the charger is plugged into a socket.

Nokia is the world's largest mobile phone maker with an estimated 38 percent global market share of all mobile devices.

Affected chargers may have been sold with a Nokia device or purchased separately as an accessory. If you have one of the recalled chargers, Nokia will exchange it at no charge for a new one. Nokia advises that you stop using the recalled charger immediately.
