Facebook and Twitter on Xbox 360 Tuesday, PS3 to Follow

Facebook and Twitter are finding their way to your couch. The gaming world is buzzing about the addition of Facebook and Twitter to the XBox 360 dashboard as separate applications. Right on the tail of Microsoft confirming the public release slated for November 17, Sony has confirmed that leaked images showing a customized version of Facebook running on the PS3 are real, and that further information would be revealed soon.

Both Microsoft and Sony are making sure they get in on the social media hype by adding popular applications such as Facebook and Twitter to their gaming platforms.

Microsoft said in a recent press release: "With Twitter and Facebook on XBox 360 the largest social networks combine seamlessly with the largest entertainment and gaming network, Xbox Live."

Sony had to keep up, so a customized Facebook experience will be coming soon and there's no word of when it will be up and running for PS3 users. However, if Sony is sharp it will make this happen close to the time that Microsoft rolls out their Facebook and Twitter applications on XBox 360 on Tuesday.

While the PS3 is already capable of viewing Facebook through its web browser, running Facebook on the PS3 directly will hopefully allow for quicker and more user-friendly access to the popular social networking site.

As of Tuesday, November 17, XBox 360 users be able to access the Facebook application to make status updates, view photos and more. However, XBox Live will also incorporate Facebook Connect so that gaming activities can be posted back to Facebook, such as in-game screen shots. Twitter will integrate easily and it will be even easier to use with the Qwerty keyboard which can be purchased as an accessory.

With the holidays right around the corner and plenty of Black Friday deals on XBox 360 and PS3 systems, there will be plenty of social media addicts pleased to see Facebook and Twitter applications up on their big screen television.
