Jon Gosselin is trying his hand at running a foundation. He announced this week that he has started the Jon Gosselin Children's Foundation, in honor of his father. Gosselin stated that he had a very good year financially so he decided to start the foundation.

According to Gosselin, starting a foundation for children is something he's always wanted to do. In an interview with PopEater.com, Gosselin explained that his father was a dentist who dedicated one day per week to providing dentistry to handicapped children at no charge.

Even though he supposedly has a background in the technical field, Gosselin does not have a website set up for his new foundation. He is looking into starting a website by the end of the year so individuals would be able to contribute to his foundation.

Jon announced this new foundation on Twitter on Thursday.

Hey everyone, today marks the official start of the Jon Gosselin Children’s Foundation- very excited to start this chapter of my life

There is no word on what Jon Gosselin is focusing on with his new foundation. Apparently the foundation has been created with money from his "very good year financially" but there is no information available on what children will benefit from the Jon Gosselin Foundation.

Apparently, Jon Gosselin is an over-night philanthropist.

That could be because he's never run a foundation before. Jon stated in his interview, "You learn from other people and what they do and sometimes you can link foundations together, which would be great."
It would be great to know what the foundation is all about before other foundations start linking to it.

Jon didn't state what he was focusing on with this foundation, but he did mention his ongoing visits with cancer patients. He mentioned that he continues to visit with cancer patients after he and soon to be ex-wife Kate filmed an episode at St. Jude's Hospital.

"That was the first time I really was shocked. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. You have kids who are not going to make it. You're happy they are there because they are getting the best care in the world. But, it really touched my heart. Just because we showed up, they were happier just that one day. That's amazing you can change someone's life and attitude just by appearing. It's something that you have to realize within the public eye."

Jon Gosselin really does have a unique way with words. Not knowing whether to laugh or cry in the presence of children with cancer seems to be a clear indication that he is not really ready to start a foundation for children. Perhaps he will get some help with this and do some good with all of his blatant over-exposure in the media.
