Tiger Woods won the Australian Masters on Sunday making this his seventh victory for 2009. In Woods' first trip to Australia in 11 years, he put on a great show for his $3 million appearance fee. Woods led throughout the tournament, and finished with a total of 14-over par to win by two shots from home hope Greg Chalmers.
Tiger Woods was in a three-way tie for the lead with three birdies on his opening six holes. He then regained control with a tee shot to a back pin on the par-3 15th that covered the flag and stopped 6 feet away for his final victory.
Woods,33,has won 82 times around the world and in 13 countries at official tournaments. It was his first victory in Australia, where the government estimates its return on paying half of the appearance fee was some $20 million.
Record crowds turn out to see this golf legend, who has recently been rumored to be the 1 Billion Dollar Man. The crowd approached 25,000 all four days, and made the Australian Masters tournament look like a major championship.
In the UK's Daily Mail, Woods was quoted as strongly hinting that he would return to defend his title next year, saying: 'All the guys have raved about this golf course and I understand why ... I really enjoy playing on sandbelt courses because it brings back shot-making and we don't see enough of that ... I would certainly love to come back. I haven't looked at next year's tournament schedule yet - I'll do that next month and get an idea of what I need to do for the entire year and I'll come up with a game plan.'
Tiger Woods has one tournament remaining for 2009. The Chevron World Challenge in California will be held the first week of December that counts toward the world ranking for the first time.
