John Kerry: Daughter Alexandra Not Legally Drunk

Despite many stories on the Internet on Thursday, John Kerry's daughter, Alexandra was not arrested on a DUI charge, but for the suspicion of driving under the influence. Alexandra Kerry, 36, was arrested in Los Angeles early Thursday morning and released at 5:25 a.m. after posting $5,000 bail, according to police records. She was not pulled over for drunk driving as reported on many websites.

"Alexandra Kerry was pulled over for an expired registration and was released after the results of a Breathalyzer test at the police station were under the legal limit. Senator Kerry supports his daughter and will have no further comment on a private matter," said Jodi Seth, a spokeswoman for Senator Kerry.

After being pulled over for an expired registration, Alexandra Kerry was then arrested and booked for a possible DUI, but not a confirmed DUI. Alexandra Kerry was released after a breathalyzer test fell under the legal limit for intoxication.

Police can still arrest a person on suspicion of drunken driving if officers believe the motorist is impaired.

TMZ.com reported that Alexandra Kerry refused to take Breathalyzer test at the scene. A later test showed a level of 0.06, under the legal limit of 0.08.

The case was later turned over to prosecutors who will decide whether to formally charge John Kerry's daughter or dismiss the matter. A spokesman for the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office said the case was under review.
