The Barnes and Noble Nook website is right up front about the lack of Nook E-Readers available:
"The hottest holiday gift is out of stock ... order the Nook today to be first in line for the new year."
You can still order one of the $259 devices, but you won't get it until at least Jan. 4, 2010, according to Barnes and Noble. Demand has zapped the supply of the Nook, but production is being ramped up, and should be in full swing in 2010.
The earliest that anyone who orders the $259 Nook will receive it is Jan. 4, 2010.
"While we increased production based on the high consumer interest, we've sold out of our initial nook allotment available for delivery before the holidays," per a Barnes and Noble statement.
Customers who had hoped to buy a Nook as Christmas or Hanukkah present can get a certificate to present in lieu of the device.
E-readers are expected to be a popular gift this year. Sony is also having supply/demand issues with it's new $399 Daily Edition Reader device. Sony is taking orders online for it, however, the Reader will not ship until some time from December 18th to the first week of January. So the bulk of holiday 2009 orders may belong to Amazon's Kindle.
