Cyber Monday Retailers Use Social Media to Help Shoppers

Retailers and customers are using Twitter this holiday season to communicate the best deals and strategies for shopping. Starting with Black Friday, Twitter became a huge resource for shoppers who were trying to find sales at 5am. Now that Cyber Monday is just hours away, big name retailers like Sears, KMart, Walmart and Toys R Us are helping shoppers find their big Cyber Monday deals via Twitter and dealing out special coupons on their Facebook sites.

Retailers like Best Buy and Sears use Twitter to inform shoppers of bargains but they are also there to be an instant customer service solution. They have their Twitter accounts staffed and ready answer questions about problem purchases ... in 140 characters or less.

Although Twitter is often seen as a social application, retailers are seeing the value in using Twitter to maintain great customer service and help spread the word about deals and savings. Customers appreciate the help and their feedback, whether positive or negative, is a huge help to retailers.

Most major retailers are starting to get a grip on the Twitter phenomenon and it's a big advantage to consumers who want to connect with the stores that they spend their hard earned money in.

Retailers are hoping that Twitter will bring them more business this holiday season. According to a study on Shop.org, about 47 percent of retailers said they would increase their use of social media this holiday season. More than half of retailers said they added or improved their Facebook and Twitter pages. Many Twitter users who follow their favorite retailer on Twitter will find that they also have a Facebook page that offers a discount to their fans.

Start following your favorite retailer now to take advantage of deals that they may be offering for the holiday shopping season. If you are not sure of their Twitter account name, go to http://twitter.com/invitations/find_on_twitter and type in the name of the retailer you are searching for.

Many of these retailers also have Facebook accounts such as Sears: http://www.facebook.com/sears. Many of these Facebook accounts offer great coupons for their "fans" in addition to the Cyber Monday or general holiday sales. Search for these by going to Google and typing in "Facebook" and the name of your favorite store.

Cyber Monday is already starting to gear up, with ads leaking on the Internet. By Sunday night, shoppers should be aware of most of the sales and have their credit cards ready for another day of furious holiday deal shopping.
