The 2011 Mustang is going to show off its muscle at the Los Angeles Auto Show this week. It promises to deliver 305 horsepower and 25% better fuel efficiency and wants to be tough competition for the Chevy Camaro in a race for muscle car sales dominance. Ford is aiming to take the lead with gas mileage with the 2011 Mustang.
For 2011, Mustang’s new 3.7-liter Duratec 24-valve V-6 delivers power and economy. Aluminum construction means it's a light weight and the engine designed to crank out torque down low, rev to 7,000 rpm and deliver the mechanical music sports coupe lovers crave everywhere in between. The 2011 Ford Mustang is going to be a comeback car and big competition for Camaro lovers.
Not only is this high powered muscle car going to have excellent fuel efficiency, the die-cast aluminum oil pan will provide 10,000-mile oil change intervals, saving drivers money on maintenance and resulting in less waste in oil disposal.
Helping with the fuel economy are some refinements throughout Mustang’s body, powertrain and chassis design, including:
*The new Electric Power Assist Steering system which eliminates the drag of an engine-operated hydraulic power steering pump
*Six-speed transmissions
*Aerodynamic improvements such as a new front fascia, tire spats on the rear wheels, modified underbody shields, and an added rear decklid seal.
The 2010 Mustang coupe earned the U.S. government’s top five-star crash-test rating and the 2011 model is expected to achieve the same. Ford uses high-strength steel in the Mustang's body structure and ultra-high-strength steel in the door intrusion beams for additional side-impact protection.
Ford has not stated how much the 2011 Mustang will cost, but executives said it would remain competitive with current versions.
If you're in Los Angeles stop by the LA Auto Show and take a look at the new Porsche Boxter Spyder. The LA Auto Show is open to the public starting on December 4 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
