Carnival Cruise Lines Orders New $738 Mil Ship

Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri has been contracted to construct a 130,000-ton cruise ship for its Carnival Cruise Lines brand, scheduled to enter service in spring 2012. The 3,690-passenger ship is being built at a cost of approximately $738 million and will be similar to the recently launched Carnival Dream -- with some additions that Carnival will not reveal yet.

The new Carnival ship is the third in the Dream class. It will have great appeal for families with a WaterWorks aqua park with a 300-foot-long corkscrew water slide, a stunning indoor/outdoor cafe and live entertainment venue called Ocean Plaza, and a wide range of staterooms including deluxe ocean views with two-bathrooms, some of which feature five berths.

In addition, there will be attention grabbing facilities for children and teens, a 23,750-square-foot Cloud 9 Spa, and The Lanai, and an outdoor promenade featuring cantilevered whirlpools that extend over the ship's sides.

If you can't wait until 2012 to travel on the new Carnival ship, you can book a trip on the Carnival Dream that launched in September. A second ship, the Carnival Magic, is slated to enter service in May 2011.
