American Idol Jordin Sparks to Sing at National Tree Lighting 2009

American Idol's Jordan Sparks is one of the many performers who will take part in the 2009 National Christmas Tree Lighting on December 3. Jordin Sparks rose to fame as the winner of the sixth season of American Idol. In addition to Sparks, other nationally known entertainers and a military band perform and the President brings a message of peace to the nation and the world.

The National Christmas Tree is a Colorado blue spruce planted on the Ellipse, south of the White House, in 1978. The tree was 15 years old and 30 feet tall when it arrived in our Nation’s capital 31 years ago. Today the tree is 46 years old and stands at almost 42 feet tall.

The National Christmas Tree Lighting is a great holiday event and if you didn't win tickets to see it in person in the lottery that The National Park Service and the National Park Foundation held last month, you can watch it via a live webcast.

To view the live webcast, go to www.thenationaltree.org on December 3rd at 5pm ET to watch the entire show. Every performance, presenter and holiday festivity from the ceremony will be broadcast online for you to view from wherever you are.

This year's performers include:

*Nine-time Grammy Award winning singer-songwriter Sheryl Crow
*Hip-hop artist, actor and author Common
*Pastoral folk, railroad blues, and front porch country artist Ray LaMontagne
*American Idol Jordin Sparks
*Jazz artist and saxophonist Joshua Redman
*Jazz pianist Brad Mehldau
*International Irish music phenomenon Celtic Woman

The 2009 National Christmas Tree, now the most energy efficient in history, consuming about 6,000 watts compared to last year’s 18,000 watts. An energy efficient tree and an amazing cast of entertainers will make the 2009 National Christmas Tree Lighting on December 3 an event to watch with your family.
