Tiger Woods Scandal: Golf Digest Cover is Bad Timing

The January issue of Golf Digest, the premier magazine about the game of Golf, is out and the timing couldn't be worse. The cover features Tiger Woods hovering over President Barack Obama with a subtitle of: 10 Tips Obama Can Take From Tiger. The magazine was printed in mid-November, well before the Tiger Woods sex scandal involving a long list of alleged infidelities started making daily headlines.

Golf Digest creatively used Photoshop to create an image of Woods in caddy gear posing behind Obama as he judges a putt for their January 2010 cover. The picture isn't what makes the big statement -- it's the "10 Tips Obama Can Take From Tiger" subtitle.

Without all the press about Tiger Woods and his infidelities with over ten women, this would have been a stellar title. The Tiger people thought they knew would have had heads nodding and thinking, "Yes, Obama needs to learn how to run a country like Tiger runs the game of golf."

An interesting quote from the January issue of Golf Digest:

"Woods is a good role model ... because he has always been able to pull himself together after setbacks," the article says. "Woods never does anything that would make himself look ridiculous."

In light of the information the world now is privy to, that statement will be read with a whole different perspective. Those who saw Tiger Woods as a man who can "pull himself together" now see him as a man who can pull his pants down, if nothing else.

As far as making himself look ridiculous, he didn't do that. He went far beyond looking ridiculous now that fans, possibly former fans, are seeing the new Tiger in the tabloids and the press.

The fact that Tiger has done little to come forward and make a real statement, not just a "sorry, I made some transgressions" leaves his fans in the lurch. Some are angry. Some feel betrayed by this former role model who had the appearance of someone who was actually faithful not only to the game, but to his wife.

The latest on the Tiger Woods scandal:

A poll by CNN and USA Today reported that approval ratings for Woods have dropped 24 per cent in the wake of his admission of mistakes.

PepsiCo Inc. is dropping Gatorade Tiger Focus, which is named after Woods, although it insists the move is part of an overhaul of its sports drink brand rather than scandal fallout.

Nielsen Co. reports numerous ads featuring Woods have been pulled from prime-time TV slots on big networks and cable channels.

California congressman Joe Baca on Wednesday said, "In light of the recent developments surrounding Tiger Woods and his family," he will not push ahead with plans to honour the golfer with a Congressional Gold Medal, which is the highest award Congress has to honour civilians for achievements and contributions to society.

The list of Tiger's women in this scandal doesn't seem to be ending, with new women revealing a bit about their connection with Tiger almost every day.

The most recent list of Tiger's infidelities:

Rachel Uchitel was apparently the reason why Tiger Woods had his infamous accident. It is claimed that Tiger Woods was texting Rachel Uchitel, when his wife got suspicious and checked his phone and came to know about the affair.

Jaimee Grubbs damaged the Tiger’s reputation the most, because she has brought forward over 300 text messages and a voicemail to prove her affair. Now she has apologized to Elin yet keeps publishing Tiger's text messages.

Kalika Moquin is a27 year old Marketing Director with the Bare Pool Lounge. Their affair started in Las Vegas.

Mindy Lawton is an Orlando waitress. She had a short 3 month affair with the golfer including having sex in church parking lots.

Cori Rist is a 31 year old catalog model based in Manhattan. She apparently had a 6 month affair with Tiger Woods.

Jamie Jungers, 26, sold her Tiger story to a British paper. In return for being Tiger Woods mistress, she allegedly received a large sum of money from Tiger for liposuction.

Holly Sampson was the first person who admitted on camera that she had an affair with the ace golfer Tiger Woods. Sampson's 197 page book is entitled, Tiger's Stimulus Package and has already had advance sales of 1.3 million books.

An unidentified 26-year-old waitress is also claiming to be Tiger Woods mistress but at the same time is trying to remain anonymous as she now has a "visible corporate job".

Mistress number 9 is unidentified so far. The only detail is that she is a married, British TV presenter.

Alleged Mistress number 10 is also unidentified and the only detail known about her is that she is known to be a “sex-addicted cougar.”

Joslyn James was a regular in Tiger Woods in life. Apparently she is ready to share the candid details of her sex life with the ace golfer Tiger Wood to the media.

The Golf Digest cover for January 2010 that features Tiger Woods and speaks of him being a "good role model" is arriving in subscribers' mailboxes this week and will likely be made into a new parody about Woods on Saturday Night Live or on a late night talk show.
