American Idol Kicks Off Season 9 on January 12

Paula Abdul is out as a judge for the 9th season of American Idol. Ellen DeGeneres will bring a new perspective from the judges seat when American Idol kicks off with a two-night season premiere on January 12 and 13. DeGeneres will join judges Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi on the show that always seems to have some controversy.

There will be rotating guest judges for season 9 of American Idol. Guest judges including Victoria Beckham, Mary J. Blige, Joe Jonas, Neil Patrick Harris, Shania Twain and Kristin Chenoweth.

The American Idol judges have been traveling the country to find performers worthy of the American Idol title. They have visited Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Los Angeles and Orlando while on their mission to find contestants for the show -- and the auditions are often the best part of the American Idol show.

Past winners on American Idol Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Fantasia Barrino, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Hicks, Jordin Sparks, David Cook and Kris Allen have become household names and have made their mark on the recording industry.

Even those who didn't win have made a name for themselves in the media -- case in point, Adam Lambert.

There's always something unusual in store on American Idol and the 9th season starting in January is likely to be another interesting viewer experience.
