Tylenol was in the news in 2009 with its ever expanding list of recalls and 2010 looks to be no different. Today it was reported that there is a new recall that includes Tylenol Extra Strength, Rolaids and a number of children's medicines. This encompasses 27 products in the Tylenol line.
McNeil Products, the manufacturer for Tylenol products, released a statement today in which it said the voluntary recall affects a number of products for which there have been no complaints. The company added that the musty-smelling chemical thought to be the cause of the sickness poses no risk to those who ingest it beyond the nausea, vomiting and other stomach problems that have been reported.
No risk beyond vomiting?
There is no risk other than vomiting and stomach problems. That certainly sounds like a risk if someone, such as an elderly person, was weak to begin with and vomiting caused further stress to their body.
Part of the statement from McNeil reads:
"In addition to the product recall, McNeil Consumer Healthcare is continuing its investigation into the issue and is taking further actions that include ceasing shipment of products produced using materials shipped on these wood pallets and requiring suppliers who ship materials to our plants to discontinue the use of these pallets."
What's on the full list of recalled Tylenol Products?
It's not just Tylenol branded products that are involved. There is a hefty list of recalls put out by McNeil and it's frightening:
CERTAIN PRODUCT LOTS OF Tylenol® Products including, but not limited to: Tylenol Extra Strength, Tylenol 8 Hr, Tylenol Arthritis, Tylenol PM and Tylenol Children's Meltaways.
CERTAIN PRODUCT LOTS OF Mortin® Products
CERTAIN PRODUCT LOTS OF BENADRYL® ALLERGY ULTRATAB™
CERTAIN PRODUCT LOTS OF Rolaids® Antacid Tablets
CERTAIN PRODUCT LOTS OF Simply Sleep® Products
CERTAIN PRODUCT LOTS OF ST. JOSEPH® Products
The list seems to keep growing and it seems to makes sense for Tylenol to just make an announcement for people to STOP using any and all Tylenol products. That has not happened - yet.
There is an entire press release dedicated to this recall and a comprehensive list of the recalled items on the McNeil website (mcneilproductrecall.com). It's beyond a simple recall now. The list is so long that it makes sense for people to be aware of any product in the lines listed above and stop using them until this major recall issue is cleared up. Simple stomach illness or not, it's not acceptable to sell products that could cause illness of any kind.

#1 Tylenol Extra Strength.
Does the Equate Extra Strength Pain Reliever have the same problems when taken such as stomach problems? We have a couple of bottles of Rolaids. Should we throw them out?
