Google may be replaced by Bing on iPhone

If you have an iPhone or you're planning on buying one, you may soon have Bing as your default search engine instead of Google. There are talks in process right now between Microsoft and Apple to seal the deal. This could be yet another sign of tension between Google and Microsoft.

An article in Business Week revealed that talks between Apple and Microsoft have been going on for weeks. Perhaps nothing will transpire and Google will still remain the search engine of choice on the iPhone, but for now, it looks like Microsoft would like to get Bing in the forefront.

Bing is the current web search engine from Microsoft. It went live on June 3, 2009 and in July, 2009 Microsoft and Yahoo! completed a deal in which Bing would power Yahoo! Search.

Google has been trying to make big strides with its Android mobile operating system. In early January, Google introduced the Nexus One smartphone, which they hoped to be big competition for Apple's iPhone.

So far, the iPhone seems to be still in the lead despite all of the heavy advertising Google has done to promote the Nexus One. Putting Bing on the iPhone as the default search engine might be Microsoft's way of trying to keep a leg up on Google.

Apple is likely to be quite aware that Microsoft desperately wants to gain search market share as Apple continues to work on ways to manage ads displayed on the iPhone.

It could be a winning situation to put Bing on the iPhone as a default search engine but will iPhone customers feel the same?
