The Minnesota Vikings may have lost out on a chance to go to the Superbowl, but they gained a new mascot. The team flew General Larry Platt, known for his Pants on the Ground audition on American Idol, to New Orleans to inspire the Vikings before Sunday's NFC game against the New Orleans Saints.
During the Atlanta auditions in the latests season of American Idol, 62-year-old General Larry Platt upstaged all of the "real" singers with his "Pants on the Ground" song. It quickly went viral on YouTube and a favorite with Minnesota Vikings player, Brett Favre. Of course, Favre tried to make his version of the song as popular as Platt's, but it's Larry who made the song a hit.
Saturday night, Platt was welcomed by a big round of cheers as he performed his now famous song at the Viking's hotel. It was hopeful that the "Pants on the Ground" song, which was performed during the final meeting of the evening before the big championship game, would bring good luck to the Minnesota Vikings.
Although Larry Platt's performance didn't result in a win for the Vikings, he was applauded by the team for his dance moves and is now an honorary mascot.
The Vikings now walk away with their pants on the ground, so to speak, as the New Orleans Saints head to the Superbowl to go up against the Indianapolis Colts on Feburary 7, 2010.
