Olympic skater Nancy Kerrigan's father dead, Mark Kerrigan arrested

Daniel Kerrigan, the father of Olympic skater Nancy Kerrigan, was reportedly found dead in his Massachusetts home on Sunday. Apparently, 911 was called to report the 70 year old unconscious in the kitchen of home. His wife, Brenda, claimed that he had a heart attack. Curiously, Nancy Kerrigan's brother, Mark, was taken to the police station Sunday for questioning and was arraigned today arraigned today on charges of assault and battery on an elderly person.

Prior to Mark Kerrigan, 45, being questioned, and later arrested, by police, he was treated at a local hospital for an undetermined injury.

Nancy Kerrigan lives near her parents in Lynville, Massachusetts. Best known for not only being a two-time Olympic Medalist, Kerrigan was a victim of serious attacks by rival skater Tonya Harding. During the 1994 U.S. Figure Skating Championships, Harding's ex-husband hired a hit-man to attack Kerrigan in hopes the injuries would give Tonya Harding the edge in the competition.

Mark Kerrigan is being held on $10,000 bail. He was arraigned Monday afternoon in Woburn District Court. Kerrigan plead not guilty on one charge of assault and battery on a person over 60. He was recently released Billerica House of Correction where he served time for assault and battery and other related charges.

The Boston Globe reported that the police stated Mark Kerrigan put his “hands around his father’s neck” and he said he thought his dad was “faking it” when he collapsed. Mark Kerrigan had to be subdued with pepper spray, the police report states. He also appeared intoxicated according to the police report.
