ABC is pulling the plug on the television comedy, Ugly Betty. The show will stop airing in April due to low ratings. The show reportedly lost approximately 3 million viewers in the past year and that's a fairly significant drop. The show also lost some ground when it was moved in the fall from its Thursday night time slot to Fridays.

Ugly Betty premiered on ABC on September 28, 2006. The opening episode of the series began with 9 main cast members including Betty Suarez (America Ferrera), a recent college graduate looking to break into the publishing business.

Another major cast member is Wilhelmina Slater (Vanessa Williams), who is a grand-schemer who is constantly trying to find a way to take over Daniel Meade (Eric Mabius)magazine empire, Mode.

Ugly Betty won two Golden Globe Awards on January 15, 2007, for "Best Leading Actress in a Comedy Series" (America Ferrera) and Best Comedy Series. Ferrera also won a SAG Award on January 28, 2007, for "Best Actress in a Comedy Series".

Fans blame the demise of Ugly Betty on the fact that ABC moved the show into a bad time-slot. The falling numbers, along with some weak plot lines, were a means to an end for Ugly Betty. The last episode will air in the Spring, 2010.
