Putin Attends India's Republic Day Ceremonies

Russian President Vladimir Putin was the guest of honor at a parade in central New Delhi today marking the 58th anniversary of the Indian Republic.

The parade included displays by India's military forces and an aerial show by fighter aircraft.

Much of the weapons and military equipment displayed were either Russian in origin or developed jointly with Russia, which is India's biggest military supplier.

Thousands of extra security personnel have been deployed to guard against any disturbances during the celebrations.

Putin's presence at the Republic Day celebrations in New Delhi was seen as the symbolic highlight of his two-day visit aimed at revitalizing ties between Russia and India.
