AFL-CIO speech shows Obama support of unions

President Obama's speech to the AFL-CIO today focused on healthcare but showed his support of organized labor.

Obama was in Pittsburgh, Pa., to address the AFL-CIO convention. He stated his support for affordable healthcare, jobs for middle-class Americans, reasonable college tuitions and fair pay.

Here are among the lines he delivered showing his support of organized labor, as reported by The Washington Post.

"Because one of the fundamental reasons I ran for president was to stand up for hardworking families, to ease the struggles, to lift the hopes and make possible the dreams of middle-class Americans."

"And when organized labor succeeds, that's when our middle class succeeds. And when our middle class succeeds, that's when the United States of America succeeds."

"For over half a century, the success of America has been built on the success of our middle class."

"We're going to grow our middle class with policies that benefit you, the American worker."

"We'll grow our middle class by building a stronger labor movement."

"Labor's part of the solution."
