Take the Energy Star Pledge: Federal Rebates for Appliances

Our government is finally getting serious regarding energy efficiency. Surprised? Washington will pay up to $1500.00 in rebates for qualified Energy Star efficient appliances and home improvement projects.

Now, you can get that brand new high-efficiency water heater, replace your energy sucking doors and windows, and maybe even re-insulate your house while you're at it!

Did you know that compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFL) will save about $30 over its lifetime and pay for itself in about 6 months?

Take the Energy Star pledge. "Change the World, Start with ENERGY STAR" is a national campaign encouraging all Americans to join with millions of others and take small, individual steps that make a big difference in the fight against global warming.

Looking for energy credits on a grand scale? How about a 30% credit for solar water heaters, solar panels, geothermal heat pumps, small wind-energy systems and fuel cells? These big cost items are good through 2016.

The federal government has allocated $300,000,000 in rebates for qualified Energy Star appliances. Also included in the plan, are Heating & Cooling, Home Electronics, Lighting and Office Equipment. The money should be available late this year or early next year.

Qualified Appliances:

  • Clothes Washers
  • Dehumidifiers
  • Dishwashers
  • Refrigerators
  • Freezers
  • Room AC
  • Room Air Cleaners

Not only will the big boys in Washington be helping out with tax credits, 44 states are also offering tax incentives, including property tax credits, income tax credits and sales tax credits. It's also possible to receive rebates from state utility companies.

The Energy Star program is a win-win situation for everyone, but it won't happen overnight. Even with multiple rebates and tax credits, you still have to fork over the money in the beginning. Energy efficient replacement doors and windows can easily drain your checkbook of $10,000.00 or more at the onset of a home improvement project.

Along with all the federal and state incentives, your savings will be realized over time. In the end, reduced energy consumption will pay for itself, not only in monetary savings, you'll also feel good about your investment in long term green-living.
