Although the estimated jackpot was $193 million dollars, the actual prize money was $189 million, and that's before taxes. Still, that's a hefty payout for ONE lucky winner. That's right! According to the official Powerball website, there was one winner sold by the Florida Lottery for the last drawing's $189,000,000 grand prize, making this one of the largest single pay-outs in Powerball history.
On Saturday, October 3, 2009, the Florida Powerball winner matched all five numbers, 12, 24, 48, 50 and 57, with a Powerball of 22.
At this time, there's no indication where the winner comes from, only that the winning Powerball ticket was purchased from a Chevron Food Mart in Orlando, Florida.
The last winning Powerball ticket was picked on August 19, 2009, with a jackpot of $260M. The Columbia, South Carolina state Revenue Department retiree, Solomon Jackson, Jr, took home either $129M ($129,777,212.43 cash) in one lump sum (about $88 million after taxes), or spread the total winnings ($259,900,000.00 annuity) over 30 years. Jackson's winning Powerball numbers were 14, 24, 31, 43 and 51, with a Powerball of 27.
The Powerball prize will drop back down to $20 million for the Wednesday, October 7th drawing.
And all along, I thought I had the winning Powerball ticket!
