As the culinary world deals with the distasteful news of Gourmet Magazine's demise, Cookie, Condé Nast's parenting magazine is also taking a major hit.

Condé Nast Publications premiered Cookie magazine in November 2005. If the title of this magazine makes your mouth water with tempting visions of warm and gooey chocolate chip cookies, think again. Cookie is a lifestyle magazine for the modern mother. Although there are gourmet recipes and dining and living articles, Cookie features "an editorial mix of fashion, home décor, travel, entertainment and health for her and her family," according to Condé Nast.

I must admit, I had never heard of the Cookie magazine before, nor did most of my peers. Perhaps that's why it never caught on like Ruth Reichl's baby – the ultimate in glossy food porn – Gourmet Magazine.

Reading Cookie for the first time today, I was pleasantly surprised at how well laid out the publication was. The pages were bright and colorful, delicious recipes, great topics featuring style and beauty, entertainment and shopping, community and lots of ads. What I wasn't prepared for was one of the top stories that discusses smoking weed with your neighbors at a play date. Read on...

Three of Cookie's Most Popular Articles:

  • Holiday Travel - "Score some serious deals and start planning your next trip now." This was an awesome column of Cookie Magazine. It had lots of compelling travel stories and money saving ideas.
  • Parents and Pot - "Do you think it's okay to smoke weed at a play date?" Since when do we OK the smoking of pot at play dates and
  • neighborhood barbecues? Here's a clip from Cookie, Condé Nast's online mommy magazine's article, Parents and Pot, "A mother we'll call Hannah—who now regularly smokes pot with her neighbors—says, "It took two years for me to find out that these people smoked pot, but now when there's a dinner party, other people are asked to bring a salad or a side dish, and I'm asked to bring the weed." Talk about potluck." OK.......

Joint closures like Gourmet and Cookie Magazine is a huge hit for Condé Nast – and I say that in the most "organic" way!

To recap: Condé Nast is shutting down four publications. Gourmet Magazine, Cookie, Modern Bride and Elegant Bride.
