The world watched with baited breath as Falcon Heene aka Balloon Boy, supposedly floated over the skies of Colorado. TV viewers, Tweeters, Facebook, as well as most of the world, were glued to their televisions and computers by the 50-mile balloon flight, made famous by Falcon Heene. After the balloon touched down in a field and Falcon wasn't inside, a frenzied search continued until he was found safe at home in a box in the attic. This publicity stunt is now being considered a hoax, pending further investigation
Speaking of a hoax, the "Balloon Boy" incident that triggered mass media attention, is now marketing Balloon Boy Halloween costumes complete with helium-like balloons. People are searching for Balloon Boy Halloween costumes, or look-a-like UFO helium balloons, on Google, Twitter and even Craig's List. Current searches are: Flying Saucer Halloween Costume, and Spaceship Halloween Costume.
Just as the death of superstar Michael Jackson will likely produce the number one most popular Halloween costume this year, Balloon Boy aka Falcon Heene, has also been predicted as a Halloween favorite.
According to CNN.com, "Michael Karns, director of marketing at Zazzle, an online customized products platform tied to trends and ideas, said the balloon excursion sparked the creation of 6,000 "products," (shirts, bags, shoes, doggie attire, etc.) tied to the news event. Karns predicted the "Balloon Boy" may become a hot Halloween costume as well."
Newsweek.com is saying Falcon Heene is one of this year's Halloween Costume predictions. They also have print-and-cut mask of the boy to download. The Balloon Boy's attire is simple, Newsweek.com says, "A gray sweatshirt, which you've covered in tin foil and duct tape. Accessories are silver balloons tied to your belt loops."
While the notion of going to an adult Halloween party, or dressing your children up as Balloon Boy, Michael Jackson or even the Swine Flu medical team is distasteful to you, many people are marketing these gimmicks.
