Halloween Candy Buy-Back Program: Dentist Dishes Out Money

Candy Corn Pumpkins

Dr. Beasley, a clever dentist with a healthy gimmick, is getting kids to eat less candy. Buy the Halloween candy back and send it to the troops. Snicker Bars and Nerds be gone! The Tooth Fairy will be putting a lot less money under pillows this year.

All kids – young and old – know the saying, "Trick or treat, smell my feet, give me something good to eat!" And they don't mean apples, granola and dental floss. Kids want candy, and lots of it. But, what do you do when you want your kids to make healthy choices, especially on the biggest candy-filled holiday of them all – Halloween?

A dentist in Alabama, "Dr Beasley of Beasley Cosmetic and General Dentistry, has launched the ‘Halloween Candy Buy-Back Program’ in order to encourage children to limit the amount of sweet treats they eat over the Halloween period. Dr Beasley’s scheme promises to exchange surplus sweets and candy for money and special glow in the dark electric toothbrushes," reports Cosmetic Dentistry Guide.com.

They continue, "The candy collected as a result of this program will not go to waste though; it will instead be sent to the armed forces on international service, with the aid of Operation Gratitude."

What a clever gimmick. Buy back the candy corn from kids so they won't eat so much. Kids love money almost as much as they love candy. Unfortunately, getting them to hand over their trick-or-treat loot bag is easier said than done. However, when approaching the children about all the homesick troops in faraway war-torn countries, they may be more apt to pitch in a bag or two of M&M's, especially if the dentist is handing them a five dollar bill.

Bravo, Dr. Beasley! Your Halloween Candy Buy-Back Program may just work. The campaign is going viral, more dentists are joining in. This could put an end to Halloween as we know it. For more information, check out Operation Gratitude (opgratitude.com).
