Just in time for Disney's "A Christmas Carol", Jim Carrey releases his bizarre new website "Jim Carrey". Watch Robert Zemeckis' Ebenezer Scrooge in Digital 3-D and IMAX 3-D. The blockbuster movie opens in theaters across the nation on November 6th.
Not only is Jim Carrey banking that the classic remake of Charles Dickens' Christmas Carol is going to be a huge hit, he's also got his own thing going with a new interactive website, "Jim Carrey". The 47 year old beloved comedian – and Disney – seem to have all their bases covered this 2009 holiday season.
We all know the story by Charles Dickens. Ebenezer Scrooge (Jim Carrey) is an ornery, miserable miser, hating the world and especially Christmas, and anything to do with the holiday season. He continually belittles his clerk and everyone around him. Scrooge is intent on being miserable until the day he dies, which may come all too soon. He grumbles all the way home, where he sits alone until he encounters his deceased partner, Joseph Marley.
Marley, who's got his own set of problems to deal with, hopes to convince Scrooge to amend his ways and avoid a similar fate. Marley tells him that he will be visited by three spirits. The ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come take crotchety old Scrooge on a jaw-dropping journey revealing truths he refuses to face. But, if he doesn't, it will be too late for Ebenezer. He must open his heart to undo all his years of nasty behavior and ill will.
Can Jim Carrey pull off an authentic Ebenezer Scrooge look-a-like? Can he be absolutely convincing as the miserly old man? Can he succeed in outperforming previous Scrooge-masters', Michael Caine and Bill Murray? Only time will tell.
It's still a little early in the holiday season for a Christmas film to hit the theaters. The Wrap is saying, Disney Bets $180M on 'Christmas'. A Christmas Carol opens in over 3500 theaters – 2000 of which will be 3-D.
