According to The Food Network, "Paula Deen is a self-made success story who learned the secrets of Southern cooking from her Grandmother some 30 years ago. She had no idea at the time that the love for Southern cooking her grandmother instilled in her would lead to a life-long career."
After her divorce, Paula started her own catering business called The Bag Lady. Her southern specialties were the favorites of many Savannah lunch customers. From there, Paula opened her own restaurant called The Lady and Sons in 1990, after which she relocated to downtown Savannah with her sons Jamie and Bobby. The restaurant has been a huge success which eventually led to her Food Network show.
In addition to her Food Network show, "Paula's Home Cooking" which premiered in November 2002, the southern food maven has also written
several cookbooks, including Paula Deen and Friends: Living It Up, Southern Style, The Lady and Sons Savannah Country Cookbook, The Lady
and Sons Too and The Lady and Sons Just Desserts.
