
New York City will be rocking tonight at the Rockefeller Center. The Radio City Rockettes, Alicia Keys, Michael Buble, Shakira, Aretha Franklin, Barry Manilow, and host Jane Krakowski and Zachary Levi, will be on hand to help ring in the holiday season at the annual 2009 Rockefeller Center Tree Lighting Ceremony.
The Christmas tradition that began in 1933, is still delighting families many years later. The Rockefeller Center plaza heading towards the tree is occupied by the traditional horn-blowing angels. The Rockefeller Center tree is a ten ton 76 foot Norway Spruce, and is adorned with 30,000 energy efficiant lights. The tree comes from Easton, Connecticut, and has a rare double trunk. On top of the 2009 The Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree is the New Swarovski Star.
The Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony in NYC will be held on December 2nd. Festivities begin around 6:45pm, and the tree lighting takes place at 8:55pm sharp.
For the 2009 Rockefeller Center Tree Lighting Ceremony, 30 Rock's Jane Krakowski and Chuck's Zachary Levi will co-host and celebrity guests will include Michael Buble, Aretha Franklin, Alicia Keys, Barry Manilow, The Roots, Shakira, and the famous Radio City Rockettes.
The Today Show has been announcing the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony all morning. They've warned that the area will be a mob scene, so leave your car at home or in a park-and-ride and take the subway or taxi into the center.
What Will the Weather Like Be For the Rockefeller Tree Lighting?
- Weather Underground.com reports there may be a slight problem with rain for the Rockefeller Tree Lighting later this afternoon and tonight.
- Today, December 2nd: Partly sunny late this morning...then becoming mostly cloudy. A chance of rain this afternoon. Highs in the mid 50s. South winds 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 30 percent.
- Tonight: Rain in the evening...then rain with a slight chance of thunderstorms after midnight. Windy with lows around 50. Southeast winds 10 to 15 mph...increasing to 20 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph after midnight. Chance of rain near 100 percent.
Can't Make it to Rockefeller Center for the Tree Lighting?
Not everyone can make it to New York City for the tree lighting. Why not watch it on TV instead? The Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony can be viewed live on NBC beginning at 7:00pm. The tree will be lit at approximately 8:55pm. If you can't make it to the Rockefeller Center tonight, the celebrated Christmas Tree will be on display from 5:30am to 11:30pm daily from December 2nd, 2009 through January 7th, 2010.

The lighting ceremony is amazing each year , and every year they bring something new so it will never get old, decorating the beautiful Artificial Christmas Trees and lighting them up.
