With the impending BA Christmas cabin crew strikes ahead, there is some good news as well. British Airways announced a high court injunction may prevent the upcoming Christmas strike planned by the Unite union and British Airways' employees.
The breaking news reported by Only Kent says, "A hearing took place at the Royal Court of Justice in London today, where British Airways argued that the ballot held by the Unite union was invalid due to approximately 800 of the staff taking voluntary redundancy in November and December had been allowed to vote.
Bruce Carr QC, acting for BA said that the strike was “willful, disproportionate and unlawful” He goes on to say that Unite, who are leading the strike included “hundreds of members” who they knew were taking voluntary redundancy.
In an earlier HULIQ article, British Airways 2009 Cabin Crew Strike Upsets Holiday Travel, it was reported that The Unite union members at British Airways had voted to take strike action. The industrial action would take place over 12 days from 22 December to 2 January. This would be the first walkout by British Airways cabin crew since 1997. The action could affect up to one million air travelers."
A decision is expected to be revealed tomorrow when Unite will make it’s case in the morning and a formal decision will be made by Mrs Justice Cox in the afternoon.
In other news, dailymail.co.uk reported Virgin Airlines would provide an additional 1,600 seats and bigger planes on key routes if the British Airways Christmas Strike went on as planned. Likewise, the second biggest airline operating in the UK, BMI, indicated they too, would put on extra flights to handle to delays created by the impending British Airways cabin crew strike.
