EU To Offer Renewed Aid Package To Afghanistan

Afghan Foreign Minister Rangin Dadfar Spanta is in Berlin today for meetings with senior EU officials, who are expected to renew the bloc's aid pledges to Afghanistan.

EU Commissioner for External Relations Benita Ferrero-Waldner will formally present proposals for an aid package for 2007-2010 worth more than 600 million euros ($775 million).

The funding is earmarked for health care, reform of Afghanistan's judicial sector, and rural development, including alternatives to opium-poppy production.
