Posted January 30th, 2007 by ruzik_tuzik

The American Symphony Orchestra League has announced that it has been awarded two grants from The Bruno Walter Memorial Foundation for long-term support of the League's professional development programs for American conductors. In recognition of a $600,000 matching grant to support all of the League's conducting programs and a $50,000 grant for the League's 2007 National Conductor Preview and Music Director Search Seminar, the League has renamed the Preview in memory of legendary conductor Bruno Walter.

Henceforth, it shall be known as The Bruno Walter National Conductor Preview. League President and CEO Henry Fogel said, "We are grateful to The Bruno Walter Memorial Foundation for their generous support of our conducting programs. The League is deeply committed to providing a high level of professional training to American conductors, and the magnitude of the long-term matching grant will help the League stabilize ongoing support for our important work in the area of artistic leadership development."

For nearly five decades, the League has offered advanced level, post-graduate training and professional development opportunities for American conductors. The League's role in conductor development is to provide exceptionally talented conductors with the musical and offpodium skills needed to prepare them for a leadership role with an American orchestra. Hundreds of conductors have participated in League workshops, mentorships, showcases, and seminars that enhance musical and technical competencies and strengthen capacity for artistic leadership.

League conducting programs also provide the orchestra field with first-hand knowledge of important emerging talent. -- www.symphony.org
