Evelyn Glennie - Percussion Spectacular

As one of the most eclectic and innovative musicians on the scene today, Evelyn Glennie is constantly redefining the boundaries and expectations of percussion. Glennie combines superb technique with immense vitality to produce visually spectacular performances, giving more than 100 concerts a year worldwide with the greatest conductors and orchestras.

She has commissioned one hundred and thirty three new works for solo percussion from many of the world's most renowned composers in addition to writing and recording her own music for film and television.

She is more than a percussionist, constantly exploring other areas of creativity. She has written a best selling autobiography, Good Vibrations, collaborated with renowned film director Thomas Riedelsheimer on the film Touch the Sound, and presented two series of her own television programs for the BBC.

In recognition of her contribution to music, Evelyn Glennie was bestowed with the honour of Dame of the British Empire in the 2007 UK New Years Honours List. The concert will be conducted by English conductor Brad Cohen. In addition to his work in the field of opera, Brad has a strong involvement in the performance of new music. His diverse activities include filming modern opera for TV, touring the ensemble pieces of Frank Zappa and commissioning music for the Millennium Dome. His engagements in Australia have included L'elisir d'amore for Opera Australia, a concert of Adams, Ives and Bernstein with Orchestra Victoria and the Australian premiere of Jonathan Dove's Flight at the 2006 Adelaide Festival.

WASO is delighted to be joined on stage by artists of this calibre for a spectacular evening under the stars in a program including Fanfare for the Common Man by Copland, An Orkney Wedding with Sunrise by Maxwell Davies as well as the muchloved Bolero by Ravel.
