A memorial service for longtime Actors Theatre of Louisville resident actor Bob Burrus, who died in his Oklahoma home January 3, was planned for January 30th at 10 am in the Bingham Theatre at the company's downtown complex at Third and Main streets. Those who worked with Burrus onstage and offstage for the 20 years he spent at Actors Theatre are expected to share their special memories of him including fellow actors Adale O'Brien and William McNulty.
Burrus was a member of the Actors Theatre resident acting company from 1974 to 1994. He performed in numerous plays including Jane Martin's Keely and Du and Getting Out by Marsha Norman and originated 39 roles during the Humana Festival of New American Plays.
Burrus' final performance was, fittingly, at Actors Theatre ¾ as Fred "Pap" Rose in the 2004 fall production of Hank Williams: Lost Highway. He made his Actors debut in 1974 with That Championship Season by Jason Miller.
He is survived by his daughter, Bobbie. At his wish, Burrus was cremated and interred near his other daughter, Kelly, in southern Oklahoma.
To honor Burrus, the theatre staff has purchased a commemorative brick on the rear wall of the company's 637-seat Pamela Brown Auditorium. The bricks are part of the theatre's Next Generation of Excellence capital campaign. -- www.actorstheatre.org
