The injured Kitsap County sheriff's deputies were part of a group of officers who had come to the store to investigate a report of a suspicious person on the premises. Kitsap County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Scott Wilson told news media that when the deputies tried to talk to the man, he ran and started shooting. Three deputies, including the two who were injured, returned fire, killing the man.
A young woman who the man had also shot died after being taken to a hospital in Tacoma.
The injuries to the deputies are not life-threatening.
Wilson does not know whether the two victims at the Walmart shooting knew each other. The story is still developing.
