The first round of play in the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament is now over, and as usual, there are some surprise advancers into the second round bracket. The first round NCAA bracket produced seven major upsets, but President Obama can relax, for all four of his Final Four picks made it into the second round - one only barely.
The biggest upsets in the first round saw 14th-seeded Ohio University whomp #3 seed Georgetown, 97-83, in the Midwest Regional, 13th-seeded Murray State squeak past 4th seed Vanderbilt, 66-65, in the West Regional, and 12th-seeded Cornell dispatch 5th seed Temple, 78-65, in the East Regional, marking the first time an Ivy League team has advanced beyond the first round in 12 years. In the South Regional, #2 seed Villanova -- one of the President's picks -- advanced only because 15th-seed Robert Morris missed a game-tying three-pointer at the buzzer, allowing the Wildcats to hold onto a 73-70 win.
