All about Miss Universe 2010, Jimena Navarrete

The new Miss Universe, 22-year-old Jimena Navarrete, will be taking an extended break from her studies towards a nutrition degree as she assumes her role. But she will be able to draw on her knowledge of nutrition to offer tips for staying healthy with HIV - one of the health issues she will address during her reign.

Navarrete was chosen to represent Mexico at the 2010 Miss Universe pageant after being named the winner of the 2009 Nuestra Belleza Mexico (Our Beauty Mexico) pageant. Her win makes her the second of the three pageant winners to win an international beauty contest: second runner-up Anagabriela Espinosa won the 2009 Miss International pageant in Chengdu, Sichuan, China.

At the time of her Mexican pageant win, Navarrete was in the third semester of her studies towards a licenciado in nutrition, the Mexican equivalent of a bachelor's degree, in Guadalajara while also pursuing a modeling career. She was the second straight contestant from Jalisco to win the Nuestra Belleza Mexico title.

Jimena Navarrete is second Miss Mexico to win the Miss Universe crown

With her win in Las Vegas tonight, Navarrete becomes the second Miss Mexico to win the Miss Universe title, following in the footsteps of Miss Universe 1991, Lupita Jones.

In addition to an undisclosed salary, housing and expense account, she will receive jewelry from Diamond Nexus Labs, including an eco-friendly diamond-encrusted crown, a one-year supply of hair care products from Farouk Systems' Chi line, a designer swimsuit collection from Dar be Dar by Talla Razzi, a custom-designed wardrobe by Sherri Hill and a collection of Nina shoes, professional makeup by Kryolon, and after her tenure ends, a one-year scholarship to the New York Film Academy.
