Christie's: art sales still strong

Andy Warhol, Flowers

In this economic downturn it maight be suprising to know that the world of art is still relatively healthy as recent figures from Christie's reveal.

Christie's two-day Prints and Multiples sale this week saw Warhol and Chagall works selling for the estimated price. Andy Warhol's "Flowers" (1970) sold for $386,500, well over the top estimate of a quarter million dollars.

At this recent auction all works fetched record breaking prices. Works by Warhol, Chagall, MirĂ³, and Johns netted a total of $7,604,813.

All in all promising signs that the arts will continue in tough times.
