Peshawar Pakistan located in the Federal Administered tribal areas of north western Pakistan on the Afghanistan border, a region know for lack of governmental control of the mountains tribes living there as a terrorist hideout.
Known terrorist groups operating in the area are Al-Qaeda and the Taliban. It also plays host to a thriving cottage industry of small arms manufacture.
Three women, three children and five men were killed at the check point including two policemen. This is the second such attack in a two day period.

Peshawar has long been strategic point for Western asian from the time of Alexander the Great to the British control over Afghanistan in "the Great Game" with Russia, and during the Soviet invasion it was the setting for many intelligence operations during the Cold War.
Control of Peshawar is vital for on going operations in Afghanistan as it is the southern access of the Khyber Pass.
