Google continues to be the most used search engine, Yahoo! holds firm in second place, but Bing is quickly gaining market share, according to the October analysis by research company comScore.
The total number of Google searches increased in October by 5 percent, from 9 billion to 9.3 billion, which equated to an increase in overall market share of core searches--65.4 percent vs. September’s 64.9 percent of queries.
Bing however experienced the biggest increase in October, jumping up 8 percent from month prior with the help of the 1.4 billion searches it conducted in October. Teaming that number with all other Micrsoft-related search engines amounts to 9.9 percent of the total 143 billion online searches Americans conducted in October.
Launched on June 1, Bing ranks third as the most used search engine and accounts for 85 percent of the total Microsoft searches.
Yahoo actually saw a 1 percent decline in its number of searches in October, yet still retained its second ranking with 2.6 billion searches.
Rounding out the top five were Ask Network in the number three slot with 553 million queries, a 2 percent gain over September, and AOL in fifth place with 412 million searches, a 1 percent decline.
