Sharapova to serve fashion designs next

Tennis pro Maria Sharapova wants to make her mark off the court, not as a fashion model, but as a fashion designer.

The Russian player is known for her striking good looks as much as her prowess on the tennis court. She has been featured countless times in magazines. She has modeled and acted as a spokesperson for Cole Haan and Cannon.

“I love designing. I love the fact that it's very creative," Sharapova told reporters on a visit to Santiago, where she will play an exhibition match, the "Beauty Challenge" against Argentina's Gisela Dulko. "The world of tennis has opened up many doors in my career and I've been able to experience many of them and fashion is certainly one of them.”

Sharapova has long worked with her Nike team in creating her competition outfits, often with a cocktail-inspired tennis dress for the U.S. Open. She has also partnered with Cole Haan on a new accessory line of shoes and bags.

Sharapova is currently ranked number 14 by the Women’s Tennis Association, WTA.
